Laurel Rescue Squad Building serves as the heartbeat of emergency medical response for the Austinville community — staffed by dedicated volunteers who answer the call, every shift, every season.
The Laurel Rescue Squad Building at 1542 Rescue Road has been the operational base for emergency medical response throughout the Austinville community for generations. Our volunteer-first model means that when disaster strikes or a neighbor needs help, the people who answer are the same people who live, work, and worship right here.
We operate under the volunteer rescue squad framework, providing first-response emergency medical services, technical rescue support, and community preparedness programs across a wide rural service area in southwestern Virginia.
From medical calls to search and rescue, our trained volunteers are equipped and ready to respond to the full range of emergency situations across our service territory.
Advanced life support and basic life support transport, on-scene stabilization, and coordinated transfer to regional trauma centers. Our EMTs and paramedics respond to calls around the clock.
Vehicle extrication, confined-space rescue, trench rescue, and structural collapse response. Our technical rescue team trains continuously to handle the most challenging scenarios.
Wilderness and mountain search operations, missing person tracking, and disaster response coordination across the rugged terrain of southwestern Virginia.
Free and low-cost CPR classes, first responder certification, disaster preparedness workshops, and youth programs that build a culture of safety across the community.
On-site medical coverage for community gatherings, festivals, sporting events, and public functions — ensuring safety so events can proceed without worry.
Become a rescue squad volunteer — whether as an EMT, driver, or support member. We provide the training; you bring the commitment to serve your community.
The Laurel Rescue Squad Building represents something deeper than brick and mortar. It is a promise: that in moments of crisis, help will come — quickly, competently, and with compassion.
Every call we take is someone's worst day. We treat each patient with dignity, respect, and the highest standard of clinical care — because in rural communities, your rescuers are also your neighbors.
Our volunteers maintain current certifications, participate in regular drills, and invest hundreds of hours in continuing education — because the mountains and rural roads demand nothing less than peak readiness.
Beyond emergency response, we invest in education — teaching CPR, distributing first aid kits, hosting safety fairs, and working with local schools to build a resilient, informed community.
Every member of our squad gives freely of their time. We are not a paid department — we are a family of volunteers who choose, again and again, to show up when the call comes in.
From the apparatus bay to the training room, every space in our station serves the mission of keeping our community protected.
Whether you need emergency assistance, want to volunteer, or are looking to support our mission — we'd love to hear from you.
